Lisa Preston

The Preston Group
Lisa Preston, founder of The Preston Group, LLC, is a visionary for improving and promoting the Small Business Administration (SBA) government guaranteed loan programs. She knows the industry personally from both the lender side and the regulatory examination side. Personal convictions of improving efficiencies in all areas of the SBA loan process thereby increasing loan production for the lender led the way to the creation of The Preston Group, LLC.
Ms. Preston was employed with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) for 10.5 years during the extensive banking crisis of the 1980’s. She was Liquidator-in-Charge (LIC) for several banks deemed insolvent by the State Banking Commissioner or Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) and closed by the FDIC. Ms. Preston worked in the Midwest, Texas, Northeast, and Washington, DC. After numerous promotions, she was slated at headquarters in Washington, DC as the FDIC liaison for the New York Region with the responsibility of managing a loan portfolio consisting of $15 billion in assets.
With a passion for helping others, she undertook the responsibility for enhancing the Loan Review function including process review at a financial institution specializing in commercial loans. Due to the fundamental difference in SBA government guaranteed loans, a review sample of SBA loans was conducted using a different process of review conducive to this type of loan. Verbal accolades were received from the OCC during their examination concerning the enhancements made to the Loan Review Program. During employment with the financial institution, Ms. Preston also assisted with the SBA Risk Based Review conducted by the SBA Office of Credit Risk Management (OCRM) formerly known as the Office of Lender Oversight (OLO).
With firsthand knowledge of the SBA Risk Based Review Examination, Ms. Preston wanted to increase the credibility in the SBA examination process and decided to work as an independent contractor for the SBA completing the Risk Based Reviews. She has completed numerous SBA Risk Based Reviews on behalf of the SBA for both financial institutions and certified development companies (CDC’s). Assigned as the Examiner-In-Charge (EIC), duties included evaluating preliminary SBA and client pre-site information to compose the written Review Plan, completing the On-Site Review with a team, and assessing needed improvements to the client’s SBA program in the written Review Report. Accolades from both financial institutions and CDC’s were remitted to the contractor and the SBA in both verbal and written communication stating their appreciation of Ms. Preston’s performance, professionalism, and integrity given to the Risk Based Review process.
Ms. Preston founded The Preston Group, LLC in an effort to assist financial institutions, small business lending companies (SBLC’s), and CDC’s with improvements in all aspects of the SBA lending process.
